Hot Markets: Richmond, Virginia

With over a million people, Richmond Virginia is a diverse and rich culture. Richmond is made up of many diverse neighborhoods. When visiting, you are quickly struck by the quickly changing neighborhoods. Many consider Richmond the ‘city for all’ because of physical diversity.

Richmond has a mild subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring arrives in April with mild days and cool nights, and by late May, the temperature has warmed up considerably to herald warm summer days. Summer temperatures can be unpleasantly hot, often topping 90 degrees with high humidity. July is the wettest month. Days stay warm to mild until October, when hurricanes are less likely and fall is marked by nights once again becoming very chilly. Winters are mild, and December and January are the coolest months. Light snowfall can occur from the end of November, but most snow, if any, falls in January. The average yearly snowfall is only 12 inches.

In 2005, Forbes Magazine ranked the Richmond area as one of the best places for business and careers in the United States primarily due to its highly educated labor force and relatively low business codes. Other areas of the economy that have developed recently include pharmaceuticals, insurance, advertising, biotechnology, education, tourism health services, or semi-conductors.
